Inspiration for my vibrant paintings
is largely taken from the rich and varied colours
of the world around me. Those who know my work are
familiar with my passion for light and colour. I have
travelled widely and I believe this has influenced
my fascination with colour and form. My many visits
to Africa opened my eyes to colour and the effect
of colour on our mood, and my work as an Interior
Designer confirmed this belief.
I spent many years living in Northumbria with its
wild and rugged land and seascapes, and these images
have greatly influenced my desire to capture natural
light and hues.
I now live in East Yorkshire with its rolling landscapes,
huge skies and rugged coastline, gradually disappearing
into the insatiable, wild and powerful North Sea.
These contrasting landscapes have had an effect on
my paintings, which sometimes take a more sensitive
form, as well as dramatic, vibrant works. As a fully
committed artist I now have time to stop and observe,
a pleasure denied to me in the past, and these observations
are apparent, I think, in my paintings.
My vibrant artworks are stunning against a neutral
backdrop, yet have the desired uplifting effect on
those who live with my works.
