Born in Edinburgh, I live in a north Oxfordshire village, having moved there from London in 2000.
I have been a freelance photographer for almost twenty years, having previously worked in banking. I mainly submit images to various photo libraries. Subject matter is fairly eclectic as I tend to photograph anything that appeals to me. This goes against the mantra of “find your market first and then shoot accordingly”. Subject matter, whilst living in London, was scenes of the capital as well as celebrities. These were lodged with various picture libraries.
As celebrities are a bit thin on the ground in Oxfordshire, I needed to change direction. Living in a scenic part of the UK, on the edge of The Cotswolds, it seemed logical that this area would be the source of inspiration. Images are still submitted to libraries and my work, over the years, has been published in books, magazines, newspapers and calendars.
Not all images published through a library credit the individual photographer and therefore, to increase my profile, I sell my images at local craft fairs. In addition I have taken part in Oxfordshire Artweeks and, as a member of a Banbury artists’ group, have exhibited at The Mill Arts Centre.
Making the switch to digital in 2003 I have had no regrets. Very little manipulation is undertaken, perhaps a slight adjustment to the contrast or minor sharpening.
