Derek has always had a love of art,
although basically self taught he has attended numerous
art societies and evening classes over the years biulding
on a natural ability to draw and paint from a very
early age as and when family life and work allowed
it. Now with a grown up family and a career in construction
behind him he has the time to feed his passion.
Working mainly in watercolour and acrylics and occaisonaly
oils his works can range from quite small studies
to wall filling landscapes.
"Quite frankly I like to paint anything that
takes my eye, sometimes from photographs but usually
this involves rustic or working scenes discovered
on my travels around the countryside and coasts of
Britain. I am more likely to paint a scene that I
think has the right character rather than a scene
that may be percieved to be beautiful!"
