While my family was young, I studied in Art in York
and later in Hong Kong whilst simultaneously studying
History of Art with the Open University, graduating
in 1983. In 1985 I gained a Post Graduate Certificate
in Education and several years of teaching in schools,
Further Education and OCA followed. Since 1990 I have
contributed articles to ‘Artist and Illustrator’,
‘The Artist’, ‘Leisure Painter’
and ‘Paint’ together with various craft
magazines as well as appearing on a Granada TV production.
Currently I teach Correspondence Courses in Watercolour,
Drawing and Calligraphy designed and written by myself.
I paint predominately in watercolour as the vibrancy
and transparency of the medium always excites me.
Much of my inspiration is drawn from plants and nature
because of the way the intricate shapes and patterns
interact with each other. Challenges arise when exploring
complex negative spaces which are increasingly the
starting point for most of my ideas.
