I trained with the Byron School of Art in Dorset and
during my 2 year natural history course found my love
of floral painting in watercolours. As a result I
was accepted as a member of the Society of Floral
Painters, with whom I exhibit annually. I also attended
courses on art history, the figure, art and design
and abstract techniques. Later I took up acrylic painting
and as a result my floral work became more contemporary,
using a layered, textured style on canvas.
In addition to garden and floral work, I found a love
of figure work and slowly began to specialise in church/cathedral
interiors and spiritual subjects.
These two diverse subjects now govern my work and,
as usual each winter, I shall be experimenting and
hope to bring them closer together. Already under
my Secret Garden Series I have produced work with
figures in the garden but I mean to take this a stage
further with my thoughts towards the pre-raphaelites
such as Evelyn de Morgan. Who knows where it will
lead.
Most of my floral work is on box canvas, with the
painting taken around the sides or in the case of
larger pieces a border extended around the sides created
from the colours used in the painting.
Since moving to East Anglia, I have had a number of
solo shows and participate in regular exhibitions
in galleries throughout the regions counties. I have
also had work acccepted in Open Shows in Peterborough
and South Holland each year, am a member of the West
Norfolk Artists Association, vice chairman of the
Fenland Visual Arts Collective and run classes in
my nearest town of Wisbech.
