I am now retired and my work is mainly watercolour landscapes and buildings, with some in pen and wash, and also some pen and ink drawings. In my youth I studied graphic design, worked briefly as a designer, drifted out of the business and followed a completely different career path, but always knew that my first love was art.
I have been doing watercolours about ten years, and the majority of my initial paintings or colour sketches are in situ, as my personal outlook is that “on site” paintings tend to capture the mood of a subject more accurately than later studio work, or work from photographs. However sometimes working from photographs is necessary, especially if weather deteriorates or light or time runs out.
I enjoy painting any interesting combination of buildings and landscapes, and trying to “seize the moment “. I try to paint every day, weather permitting; watercolour painting outside is always both a challenge and a voyage into the unknown-that is why I enjoy it so much!
