I have always been interested in art from an early age. Over the years I have experimented with mixed media and now largely work in watercolour and oil. I have studied several art courses. These include a BTEC in Graphic Design (OND) and a correspondence course in Calligraphy (CLAS). I graduated in 1996 completing a degree in Visual Arts and Art and Design history.
I have undertaken commissions of various subjects i.e. portraits, buildings, houses and most recently a canal boat. My preferred subjects are landscapes and seascapes. I am fascinated by water based subjects, endlessly trying to capture the texture, colour and transparency.
Travel largely in the UK gives me inspiration to try and capture various moods, atmosphere and feelings about a place. I would describe my style as expressive and intuitive (perceptive). I will first sketch and photograph a chosen motif. If I choose to take this further I will develop the studies into an oil or watercolour painting.
