After a career in education, I took up drawing and painting alongside my interest in photography, and began to capture scenes encountered during many years of walking in some of the more remote areas of the North of England, as well as from holidays spent in other areas of the country and abroad.
My interpretations of chosen scenes adhere closely to reality, with considerable attention to detail, while allowing myself the liberty to modify tones and colours to reflect particular seasons and times of day. Living close to the North York Moors, I have enjoyed painting many views of coastal villages, where the quality of light is particularly appealing, and well suited to my preferred medium of watercolours.
As with many new to painting, I started exhibiting with my local art society and gradually gained the confidence to enter regional and national events, with some success at SAA and Patchings annual competitions. After mounting twenty five solo exhibitions within the North East region, I feel it is time to embrace the wider exposure of the internet.
