I am a contemporary artist concentrating
on non-representational painting. My work does not
depict objects of the natural world. It seeks to convey
the immutable, intrinsic qualities of a subject or
landscape, the very essence if you like.
I work in a variety of media, from oil, acrylic and
mixed media. I use several layers, mostly involving
many different textures, such as sand, clay, glass,
wire and ceramics, providing a variety of textural
elements to my pieces.
My paintings are spontaneous. I begin each piece
with a vague idea, which I cultivate to grow and evolve.
My landscape work uses a limited palette, which is
striking and expressive in itself. I tend to blend
colours directly on the canvas, and then layer several
glazes. I work with colour and texture in this way,
with no interest in realism or recognisable forms.
I love the complexity of colour, and its subtle harmonies.
My work expresses this emotional wealth of colour
and texture, infused with a deep passion for nature.
Painting, is an exhilarating journey for me, where
I can express my thoughts and emotions, and consistently
challenge myself.
I see the paintings as snapshots of unmistakable
moments when the world is motionless.
Recently, I have been working on a new series of
landscapes. These landscapes or seascapes are expressed
through colour, with only an allusion to the chosen
landscape itself. Each piece has a direct bearing
on the previous landscape. Ultimately, fragments of
each landscapes spirit will unite and fuse together,
forming a larger body of work.
