I graduated in 1989 as a Graphic Designer in Germany, and worked throughout the 1990s in this field, however, with very little ambition. My heart was always in fine art, illustration, and later calligraphy and the art of lettering.
From 1999 - 2000 I studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and made my Master of Design in animation and illustration. In those days I hoped to embark on a career in comic and animation, but as we all know, life doesn’t always work as we would like to...
In 2005 I was approached to hold workshops in calligraphy in a monastery in Germany, which re-kindled my interest in this art. Since 2009 I teach the subject in evening classes in Edinburgh, plus watercolour.
Most of the work exhibited on this website was done over the last years to improve my understanding of the art of watercolour painting. I love sceneries with a slightly mysterious touch, and would like to explore this subject in other mediums as well, particularly in oil.
