I come from Eastwood, a few miles
north-east of Nottingham, famous as the birthplace
of D H Lawrence. My love of buses goes back to my
childhood and memories of my father who was a bus
driver with a former local company, Midland General,
but I also have a keen interest in railways and transport
generally.
I have been painting since the late 1970's and have
been a full time artist since 1996. Initially I painted
a wide variety of subjects, concentrating on animal
portraiture for a time before deciding to specialise
in transport subjects.
Whilst much of my time is spent on commissioned paintings,
my wife Sheila and I publish many of my transport
paintings as prints.
My images also appear on mugs; mousemats; calendars;
postcards and greetings cards.
I have been the artist-in-residence for Crich Tramway
Village for several years, and I am a former member
of the Guild of Motoring Artists.
I paint in several media including alkyd oils, acrylic,
watercolour and gouache, but most often in Chromacolour.
I have had paintings selected for exhibition at the
Pierrepont Gallery at Thoresby Park, the Patchings
Award Exhibition, the Derby City Open Exhibition and
the British Society of Painters Exhibition at Ilkley,
where I have twice been a prize winner.
Amongst my work to date are commissions for several
companies, including Potteries Motor Traction; Skills
Coaches of Nottingham; East Lancashire Coach Builders;
Metroline and Conwy Borough Council, and many private
individuals.
