Paul was educated at Gathlaxton Grammar
School, Leicester. Paul’s artistic talents were
recognised at a very early age, and while at school
won a national award for one of his paintings.
In 1977 Paul devoted all his time to painting, and
exhibitions were held of his landscape work but it
was not long before his work made way for his figurative
studies.
Paul’s major influences have been Laurence
Alma Tadema and the Victorian figurative artists.
These, together with a strong impressionist technique
that can clearly be detected in his work, combine
to create a highly individual style for which he is
justly acclaimed both at home and abroad.
Paul Attfield paints mainly in oils, and confesses
to an intense passion for his work. A remarkable talent
for evoking a mood of tranquillity and a sensitivity
eye for the transient effects of sunlight on water,
are qualities which set off the work of this gifted
artist apart.
