Lithograph print on neutral pH paper with colour fast inks to woolscale 7.
By Stephen Morris
The mesembrayanthemums on Scilly grow spectacularly carpeting walls with blocks of bright colour. The wall in question belongs to Lady Wilson who, together with Mrs Short (in whose drive I stood to paint this picture) gave part of their gardens to improve access for new local housing. When the wall was rebuilt, the grateful residents planted it afresh with the mesembryanthemums. The view down Church Street shows the uninhibited island of Samson in the distance and you can see the passanger vessel, RMV Scillonian III, before she left the quay. Showers frequently interrupted the last day of painting but rain in the air intensified the colours. This was painted in the summer of 2002.
