Shirley Faure is a largely self taught artist who
took up water colour painting when she retired eight
years ago to West Sussex after living for many years
in the Far East. Having shown some promise as a child,
family circumstances forced her to abandon the offer
of training at the Slade School of Art, and it was
not until business duties had ceased that she found
time to develop her talents.
Whilst living in Singapore Shirley and her husband
were active members of the Changi Sailing Club, taking
part in many offshore races in the South China Sea,
in Malaysia waters, and those of Thailand and Indonesia
in their X99 yacht “X-TENSION”. For some
of the European winter season they will be returning
to these warmer climes, having recently bought a house
in Phuket where they will continue to take part in
sailing activities.
On retiring to the UK they bought a Linssen Dutch
steel motor yacht upon which they travel widely throughout
the European canals and rivers. Their journeys have
led to many paintings and “postcards home”
– a series of light sketches scanned and incorporated
into a journal e-mailed home to friends and family.
She is, however, perhaps best known for her water
colour studies of flowers. She has taken part in several
successful exhibitions and won many prizes. Particularly
popular have been her selections of greeting cards
produced digitally.
Her paintings hang in private collections both in
UK and on the Continent, in America, Australia, Hong
Kong and Malaysia.
