I am a retired engineer living in
Derbyshire but I spend a significant time with my
family living in South Africa. I have developed an
interest in the cave paintings of the San bushmen
and also in African native art in general and my painting
subjects are taken from these themes but put into
a contemporary context.
Canvases are built up with a texture to simulate rock
surfaces and the acrylic paintings try to emulate
what the original bushmen could have done with modern
media whilst retaining a simplistic decorative style,
and also what modern African art work would look like
as rock paintings.
The canvases shown are painted on the edges and are
intended to be hung unframed.
A series have also been painted on large ceramic floor
tiles which have been fastened to a wall as a decorative
frieze in a house in SA.
Commissions can be taken of any variations on these
themes. Email
