Yvonne Oates is an artist who lives and works in Buxton.
She started painting about 10 years ago when she gave
up her career in education and moved to the Peak District.
She is largely self-taught, but enjoys the stimulation
of attending a variety of art courses.
Yvonne paints mainly in watercolour, but also produces
work in oils and pastels.
Recently, she has been developing the use of collage
with watercolour, and enjoying its more textural and
abstract results.
She paints a variety of subjects - usually atmospheric
scenes discovered on walks around the Peak District
or Lake District - and finds inspiration in the interplay
of light and colour.
Her paintings have been exhibited and sold in a number
of galleries throughout the area and are held in private
collections throughout the world including the USA,
Australia and South Africa.
She is a founder member of the High Peak Artists’
and Craft Workers’ Association and has exhibited
at the Pump Room in Buxton for the past 8 years.
She exhibits at the “Artist and Designer’s
Fairs” held in Buxton.
