Born in Harwich Essex, and having returned for my retirement I experience the ever - changing mood of the sea and sky that surrounds this peninsula, together with the peace and solitude that this brings.
My basic approach to art is straightforward. Simple and uncomplicated results give me the most satisfaction. My preference is for work to be created “alla prima” on location.
Painting and photography are complimentary art forms. Visits to galleries over the years have broadened my knowledge and I have been an accredited WEA tutor in photography, art and architecture courses.
The vibrant colours of the Mediterranean have influenced and stimulated the emotional and creative background to my art. Working from my studio in the Lake District I also experienced this first hand. The sensuality of colour surrounds us, and the energy that drives our lives is light.
I am not driven by a pre-conceived style other than to be as free and natural as the mood takes me. Detail is left to photography and the camera. Paintings are conceived in acrylics oil and watercolour. The use of the media is varied and depends on the subject matter.
The finished work gives me a great deal of satisfaction if that pleasure can be shared with others. Various one-man exhibitions in both media have been mounted in Essex during recent years. Work has been awarded prizes in photographic competitions.
I sell fine art limited edition prints of paintings, photographs and cards as well as original art and am willing to undertake commissions on a negotiable fee basis. All work will be unframed. People often like to choose their own frames to suit their own environment.
