I took up painting two years ago
when I decided to get out of the ‘rat race’
and focus on something that felt more natural. Painting,
for me, is a way of escaping everything and the only
true channel I have found for concentrating my energies
entirely on one thing. I only paint in oils as I find
oil paint so versatile and vibrant, and of course,
it lends itself so well to portraiture.
I turned to portraiture out of chance really, following
a commission from a friend. I soon realized that there
was something very exciting about bringing someone
alive on the canvas. It also didn’t take me
long to realize that I had a real passion for painting
as my moods are closely linked to whether a painting
is going well or not. If it is, I am on cloud nine.
I consider it quite a privilege to have found something
that I love doing so much.
I work in a contemporary realist style to create
custom oil portraiture from photographs. My goal is
to produce a painting that not only replicates the
physical appearance but also conveys my subject's
personality.
